January 15, 2010 - 15 Minutes of Magical Moment

Friday morning, we received the following email. On meeting at the appointed time, we were treated to a chance to witness Gurpreet Brar as he wrapped a turban and explained to us what it means to the Sikh religion. It was a fascinating and fun break for a Friday afternoon, so thanks a bunch, Gupie!

Subject: 15 Minutes of Magical Moment

It’s Friday, a beautiful day and a long weekend ahead. Last night I heard in the news that we will have the opportunity to witness solar eclipse in 2010 for an extended period of time such that we will not experience again for another 1000 years. While my shaving is not as dramatic as the solar eclipse, I shall be shaving this weekend, and I know some of you have gotten accustomed to my warm looks J. Before I shave, I want to share with you a magical moment that may shock you or leave you enlightened, so do not miss the short event being hosted today…

What: Oh no, is that you Gurpreet?
Where: Conference Room
When: 2-2:15pm, Friday 01/15/2010
Pre-requisites: Come with an open mind and warm heart
Deliverable: You will leave more shocked or enlightened than when you entered

Hope to see you later today.
Regards,
Papa Bear (Gurpreet)

January 12, 2010 - Leader in the Office Shows Why He is Also the Leader of the Pack

Clockwise from left to right: Walter, Darius, Jon, Pete, Travis, Mathurin and Cyrus

"I feel the need for speed"
…but if you ask me, what some of these guys needed was a lesson in drifting

Inverness Technologies' Rosslyn office held an outing and went to Dulles to visit the All Sports Grand Prix indoor go-kart facility. What should have been great racing quickly became rush hour on the inner loop of the Beltway… accidents everywhere.

It became obvious during the qualifying time trials who were the players and the pretenders. Out of the gate, Jon and Pete Peters were definitely the players as they took off, looking like the Andretti twins as they zipped in and out of the turns. Travis "Black-Flag" Elton, on the other hand, was quickly penalized for hitting too many inanimate objects and barriers.

Congratulations to Pete Peters who placed 1st, Jon Peters who placed 2nd and Darius Carreon who placed 3rd

Once the qualifying was complete, the real race began. Jon and Pete were at the front of the grid (1 and 2 respectively), but as soon as the flag dropped, Pete's speedy reaction quickly gave him the lead, which he never surrendered. In the end, Pete took the checkered flag followed closely by Jon with Darius Carreon trailing a little behind. Travis made a great comeback finishing 4th after his qualifying debacle. Cyrus Leghvan, Walter Watanabe, and Mathurin Jaze rounded out the field.

All in all, everyone had a really great time and enjoyed the morale and team building. And as we all know, Pete leads by example both on and off the track, so thanks to Pete for bringing us there and spending time with us.

Featured Inverness Project in Quarterly Update

Inverness employees are involved in many areas of work and provide a wide range of support to the government. Our hard work and dedication should not go unnoticed and that's why we decided to include a project overview section in the Quarterly Update. The project overview section will highlight one particular project, providing everyone a glimpse into all the great work we do here at Inverness. This quarter's featured project is the "Career Coordinator Task" with the Department of Defense.

Make sure you check it out when the next Quarterly Update is sent.

Project Summary

The Office of the Deputy under Secretary of Defense Military Community and Family Policy (ODUSD MC&FP) is directly responsible for the development of policies and programs that ensure the best quality of life for military members and their families. This responsibility includes the management and oversight for planning, programming, acquisition, and implementation cycles of various quality of life programs. These programs are instrumental in helping individuals cope with the stressors of the military lifestyle and play a key role in the retention of military members.

Inverness Technologies was selected to provide the services of two Senior Level Analysts (Career Coordinators) to support two pilot projects: the Career Advancement Account (CAA) and Child and Youth Program (CYP) Recruitment Programs. The goal of these programs are to help the Government staff promote the employment and training needs of spouses of military service members who are designated for reassignment or deployment industry and to help them obtain additional education and skills in high growth, high demand industry sectors to develop portable careers in such areas as health care, education, financial services, information technology, construction trades, medical transcription, etc. In support of the Child & Youth Recruitment Program (CYP), Inverness is helping ODUSD MC&FP to recruit and staff vacancies and provide staff in-training for three new Child Development centers opening in FY'09, with an emphasis on placing military spouses.

Inverness supports all military family services to include the Guard and Reserve Family Programs. In addition, services cover developing/designing, researching "Best Practices", implementing, evaluating, and providing feedback or lessons learned on policies and strategies supporting ODUSD MCFP.
